Each year Indonesia commemorates Insurance Day on October 18th since 2006. This has been a continuing national campaign which aims to increase people's understanding of insurance and its importance as an instrument to help in personal financial planning and also business planning.
This year, the organizing committee has prepared several programs to support the 2009 Insurance Day. Some events have already started since August 2009, which were a writing contest, poster-designing contest, "Insurance Goes to Campus", a social activity of donating computers to some orphanages located within the JABODETABEK area and a blood drive.
On October 18th, the organizing committee had planned to conduct an insurance road protection campaign and hold a celebration of the 2009 Insurance Day at Gelora Bung Karno Senayan, as their peak program. But as we all know, recently, a tragedy occurred in Sumatera Barat which caused a large number of people to get hurt and killed and which destroyed many homes, schools, and other public facilities.
Due to the tragic incident, the events on October 18th have been canceled and in their place other programs are being arranged, which focus more on supporting the people affected by the earthquake. The committee of the Insurance Day 2009 and Isa Rachmatarwata, Head of Insurance Bureau of the Capital Market and Financial Institution Supervisory Board, plans to meet with the governor of West Sumatera and through him, will donate money to support the people who suffered from the tragedy. There will also be a press briefing informing our sympathy and support and especially on claims procedures and service to all policyholders who are affected. In aligning to this event, at our Padang agency office, Allianz Indonesia will symbolically pay a claim to one of our policyholder or beneficiary.
