Mobile Library

Early this year, Allianz Indonesia and the Indonesia Children Welfare Foundation (YKAI) organized the one year Mobile Library. The purpose of this program is to create interest in reading among children coming from low-income families.

The first visit of the Mobile Library was to SD Perguruan Rakyat, an elementary school located in Kampung Melayu, Jakarta. The school looked terrible as it is very often affected by the flood, which almost drowned the whole building. What is fascinating is the everlasting interest from the children towards reading. 
 
In October 2008, it visited Taman Sari Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta. Just when the mobile library was in sight, without any instructions, children ran and gather round the vehicle to look for their preferred books.
