KEHATI, the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation

Allianz sets a high value on corporate social responsibility and confirms its commitment in many different ways of support and engagement. In the time of climate change and global warming, a dilemma which also affected Indonesia in an enormous dimension (Tsunami 2004, Yogyakarta Earthquake 2006, Jakarta Floods 2007), it is more than important to think about tomorrow.

Allianz believes it is already seeing signs that climate change is a serious emerging risk and it is expected to remain a top-tier issue for the insurance industry for many decades to come. To make homes and businesses safer and more secure for our clients it is our responsibility to address and tackle this risk.

Hence, Allianz Indonesia has taken the opportunity to be part of an initiative pioneered by KEHATI, the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation which is founded in 1994 by Ex-Environment Minister Prof. Dr. Emil Salim, USAID and other associates from the Indonesian civil society.

KEHATI is offering a mutual fund investment concept, called the Green Fund, to leverage financial support from the business community for ecologically and financially sustainable biological resource conservation programs. Thereby the focus is on supporting companies which produce eco-friendly products and technology, renewable energy or promote sustainable development concepts. The fund will be managed by Bahana TCW, one of the best investment managers in Indonesia.

Allianz is a Founding Member together with other numerous other well-known companies such as Medco, Indofood, Astra International, Bumiputera, Telkom Indonesia and Bank Mandiri, just to name a few. Allianz Indonesia will initially participate with 2,5 billion Rupiah under a special type of participation where 50 percent of the investment return are donated to KEHATI Foundation, and 50 percent preserved for Allianz as the investor.
